Local Woman Arrested for Being Illegally Blind

TULSA, OK—In a shocking series of events yesterday, police apprehended Tilda Jenkins, 36, at a local coffee shop for falsely claiming to be "legally blind." The accused's friend, Abigail Thomas, 33, described what occurred at the incident in question. "We were just there to grab a cup of coffee, and [Tilda] made a comment about how bad her vision is... something about having 20/100 eyesight without her glasses: 'I'm legally blind without them,' she said, and then what seemed like 30 seconds later, two officers came and took her away."

"Legal blindness is often misrepresented," explains Dr. Richard Offerman, Tulsa PD's resident Ophthalmologist. "Someone is considered legally blind when her vision is 20/200 or worse in her better eye while wearing the best possible corrective lenses. When you're talking about how bad your vision is without corrective lenses, that's completely unrelated—and now a criminal offense."

Local law enforcement has been cracking down on false claims of blindness this year in the hopes of reducing unnecessary government spending. It is expected that Jenkins will remain incarcerated for six weeks while participating in a state-funded reeducation program.
