Natalie Portman: I've Always Wished for a Severed Ear

HOLLYWOOD, CA—In an exclusive interview, Academy Award winning actress and famed star of such films as Black Swan revealed a surprising secret that she has kept for several years.

"I get a lot of fan mail," explained the 36-year-old mother of two. "Most of it is really just sweet and complimentary, but I get a lot of attempts to start up something romantic." The Jerusalem-born, Harvard-educated actress went on to state that, although she is flattered by the sentiment, she is happily married. However, when pressed, she made a stunning revelation about a fantasy she has always had.

"I know it's maybe a little cliche," admitted the advocate for women's rights. "Call me old fashioned, I guess, but I have always secretly wanted to one day open up a small package in my mail and find a severed human ear."

Although Mrs. Portman indicated that such an occurrence has never happened, she went into much more detail about the scenario that has played out in her mind daily for as long as she can recall. "I don't need anything fancy either—you know, not anything particularly ornate or even very new—but I have just always thought how romantic it would be to just receive some random mailpiece, and then carefully remove the wrapping to find that it's an ear that has been cut away from the rest of the head."

She seemed lost in thought for a moment before adding, "Ooh, I'm getting hot just thinking about it."

Whereas such a gesture as delivering a human body part differs notably from the manner in which her current husband courted her, the actress assures The Colon that she is perfectly content in her marriage. However, she did seem compelled to continue, with a glazed look in her eyes, "But if I'm really honest, I don't really know what I might do if someone were to fulfill this fantasy for me. I mean, that is a level of commitment that you just don't see outside of legends. I mean, I don't know if Ben [Portman's husband] would do something like that."

Mrs. Portman then became very quiet and stared off into space for several minutes before again responding to follow-up questions. Although The Colon's reporter had moved onto other topics such as her current projects, she ignored the topic shift.

"I'm not saying that I want to see a severed ear, or like, cradle one in my cupped hand...maybe even still warm like the life of the donor is still inside of it... I mean, that would be a little weird, right?

"I just—I guess what I'm trying to say is, it takes a special drive to remove a living ear from a person. I mean, even taking another person's ear would be wild, but what about your own? I just can't even imagine the torn, tortured soul that would do such a thing... the kind of care he would need... the affection..."

Mrs. Portman stared again into space, absently stroking her own cheek for another few minutes, before coming to and asking if she'd answered all the questions. She abruptly stood up and left without waiting for an answer.

She is currently filming Vox Lux, a musical scheduled to be released in 2019. For instructions on how to send fan mail, see her personal website, natalieportman.com.
