I Know It's Not Funny, But...

Friends and loved ones sadly announce the passing of Henry L. Johnson, 52, on Wednesday of this week. Henry was a dedicated husband and father, and a third- or fourth-rate handyman, as it turns out. He was always prone to a mishap whenever he picked up a hammer, or even a tape measure for that matter. On that fateful day last week, he put on his tool belt for the last time.

Henry, ignoring protests from his wife, thought that he would try to replace a faulty switch in his bathroom. After turning off the wrong circuit, Henry unwittingly began to unscrew the still-live outlet. Naturally, Henry touched the wire and received a nonlethal, but painful, shock. The shock surprised him and caused him to jolt backwards where he slipped on his ratchet set that he didn't need for the job but had out anyway. As he fell backward, he reached out for something to brace his fall and clutched the shower curtain. However, the rod that he had "installed" just 2 weeks prior came loose easily and provided no support for his falling body. He struck his head and died instantly.

This in-no-way-comedic tragedy has caused great heartache among those who knew Henry. They can't help but picture the scene, through inappropriate muffled chuckles, where the overconfident klutz finally met his inevitable end. His friends picture the face he must have made as he awkwardly fell, wondering if he realized the series of events that led to his demise. They try to remember him by recreating the event, retelling it multiple times, to anyone who will listen. Perhaps it is their way to heal.

Services will be held at the Eternal Slumber funeral home at 10:30 on Monday.
