Skull Bowl

Welcome back, my crafty minions! To keep the Halloween fun rolling, we'll be tutorializing a more decorative project for the season today. Most of you have probably come across a skull bowl like this at the store or online:

What if I told you you could make your own in just a few hours? It's silly to buy a flimsy plastic skull bowl when you already have skeletons collecting dust in your closet, right? Why not put those to good use! Whether they're decorative from the store or actual human remains, this post will walk you through the steps of making a fun candy or cereal bowl out of your skulls, and maybe even some ideas for those extra bones, too!

Step one is to remove the jaw: pretty self-explanatory. Next, you need to cut the top off the skull. I like to use a jigsaw and have found it helps to drill a couple holes first.

With the top of the skull off, make sure the inside is cleaned out and sand down any sharp edges. If you're using the bowl for non-liquids, you're all set! I learned the hard way, though, that human skulls aren't exactly watertight, so if you want to put liquid into your bowl, you'll need to line the skull with something, whether it's a simple plastic bowl nested inside or a plastic bag: you can get creative here.

And don't just throw away that skull top! You can keep it as a lid for your bowl or a separate dish for soap or keys. Again, get creative with it! If you've got some rotary tools, you can shape parts of the jawbone or arm bones into utensils to match the bowl.

Let me know what other creative projects you think of for your skeletons!
