The loved ones and friends of Gary Blesnik were devastated to learn that Blesnik died of cardiac arrest on Saturday of last week. His sudden and unexpected death came just minutes after he won his fourth speed-eating contest this month. Gary was often known as "big guy" by his loved ones, as no one could recall a time in his life when he was under 300 pounds. Gary died at the ripe weight of 483 pounds after they pumped his stomach of the 84 hot dogs he swallowed after barely chewing Saturday afternoon.
He is survived by his wife of 8 years, who said that she only wishes she could have seen some warning that his time was limited. She laments this "freak accident" that could have happened to anyone with a BMI above 40 who cannot stand up under their own power for more than 3 minutes at a time, sweat while they eat, and struggle to breathe unless sitting fully upright.
Gary's surprise passing has left a large void in the lives of his friends, whose visual fields have now nearly doubled in size without him occluding other objects. His wife is overwhelmed with the idea of life without Gary, as she had filled her time with bringing him food, lovingly wiping off his chin, and hosing down the furniture after he'd gotten up. If only she'd had some clue that something was not right, perhaps she could have told him goodbye in between his wheezing and snorting as he sat motionless.
His service will be held at Nelson Memorials on Saturday at noon, followed by a large lunch buffet that Gary had carefully mapped out and planned for years in the event of his passing.
