Needed a Bigger Boat

Updated: Aug 3, 2019

Larry Warner passed away this week in a tragic shark attack off the coast of California. As an avid fan of Discovery Channel's Shark Week, Larry was inspired to take a trip to California, rent a boat, and try his hand at sharking. Unfortunately, as a portly man who was a poor swimmer, and who knew virtually nothing about boats or sharks, he made easy prey for the bloodthirsty beasts.

In his naive desperation to see as big a shark as he could, Larry tossed chum into the unforgiving ocean, splashed around, and called out to the deadly predators. He was all too successful, as several large sharks apparently ripped his tiny rental to pieces right out from under him, just before he met the same fate.

His family and friends are at least comforted by the fact that he did get to see some sharks up close, and that his story is being considered for material in next year's Shark Week, as a stern reminder of exactly what not to do regarding one of earth's most dangerous hunters.

Although no remains were found, his family will bury his left tennis shoe that was recovered by the Coast Guard. The service will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m.
