Biden Granted Gaffe Extension Through January

NEW YORK, NY—Following a string of the former Vice President's embarrassing gaffes in public appearances while on the campaign trail, the front runner for the democratic nomination for the 2020 presidential race has had his gaffe limit extended through January of 2020, with the possibility of further extension to be reviewed at a future date.

After his latest embarrassment, where he referred to New Hampshire as Vermont, the mainstream media and the Democratic National Convention were forced to extend the candidate's number of acceptable gaffes. On August 9th, Biden tripped over himself when publicly stating that poor kids are "just as bright as white kids," bringing a rain of criticism from other candidates, pundits, and media personalities. However, amid these and many more, Biden still appears to be the best chance the democrats have against the incumbent, and so that appears to be the basis for his extended gaffe allowance.

The DNC had this to say about the former Vice President's verbal slip-ups: "Yes, it is concerning to see him saying things he's not allowed to say, and humiliating himself and all democrats across the nation, but because these alternatives are just literally the absolute worst, we've decided to look the other way for a while longer and hope that he can just shut his mouth."

Most political analysts and the American public agree that the 2020 race will primarily be about who can appear even halfway reasonable and lucid, and given the alternatives to Biden, it does seem to make strategic sense to keep moving the goal posts for what is acceptable in a politician in the modern era.

Of course, the American public is not surprised by the decision to extend Biden's allowable gaffe limit, given the current president's habit of saying whatever is on his mind. However, how long such a thing can continue in American politics is anybody's guess, and not likely to survive another 4 years.
