LOS ANGELES, CA—The anticipated conclusion to the Star Wars story line releases to the public on December 20th. Fans of the franchise have much riding on this film after The Last Jedi was met with mixed reviews and The Force Awakens was regarded as derivative.
However, fans have much reason to get excited about the latest film, The Rise of Skywalker, after critics sat through a private screening on Thursday and hailed the film as "perfectly acceptable."
Lauding the J.J. Abrams-directed motion picture as "pretty okay," and "definitely a decent flick," critics have put all fan worries to rest. Kenneth Turan, world-famous film critic, could hardly contain his pleasure with the movie when he wrote "It was a nice try for Abrams. There were some light sabers, and people moved things without touching them, so it had all the elements of a Star Wars movie. It wasn't bad."
The news of the passable movie has hit Disney, which owns the franchise, like a tidal wave of good news, causing stocks to rise, and rumors of more spin-off movies and series. "Creating a Star Wars movie that is worth watching is something we've always striven for," said a spokesperson over social media. "We're so glad that the film was not an embarrassment."
Some fans are not entirely sure they can trust the critics, however. "I don't know, man," said Kirk Winters, 37, who plans to see the movie on opening day. "It's just that we've been let down so many times. I'm trying to keep my expectations low. I'm not even seeing the first showing - I'll go after work."
Perhaps a healthy skepticism is beneficial, as several of the critics explained in their reviews that they entered the theater expecting a predictable dialogue and awkwardly forced acting, but came away surprised to find that many parts were "not too shabby."
In any case, social media will certainly demonstrate what the public thinks, but if it's anything like what the critics said, this may be the most acceptable Star Wars film in a generation.
